Before I go into some free traffic sources that are available to everyone, I will just say that probably the quickest way to get traffic is through paid advertising. Yes, I know it’s the way that will cost you some money, but with all the options we have today, we can target precisely who we want to get to our websites, which will help us to increase conversions and actually make money from paid advertising. On the other side, we want quick traffic, and in some cases we should be prepared and ready to pay for it. I mean, it’s a service we need, service that can earn us money, so why we wouldn’t want to pay some money to get that service, right?

Now, since I know paid advertising won’t be for everyone, lets talk about some free methods of getting instant traffic. We will talk about social networking, social bookmarking, blogs and forums. For this purpose I will refer to one article and add my comments to the content. This way it will be easier for you to get various opinions on this subjects.

Social Networking

First of all, let’s see what Gopi Nath said about social networking in his article entitled “Quick Methods To Get Instant Traffic” :

Social networking sites such as Facebook, MySpace, Twitter are said to be the most popular and powerful medium for gaining instant traffic. You can opt to use these sites to boost the traffic to your website easily. All you need to do is to try and create loyal followers through these social networking sites and send them a short notice everytime there is an update made in your website.

OK, I don’t agree with adding MySpace to this group, unless you have a special, entertainment orientated website. Why? Because MySpace is far from being popular like in old days, and nowadays there are mostly kids who are active there on regular basis. Facebook and Twitter are more business oriented, although it may not look that way. But, the fact is, businesses have adopted Facebook and Twitter as popular and good platforms for promoting their businesses and products, which is no surprise since Facebook have around 800 millions of users, and pretty high percentage of them are regulary active on the site.

Twitter is good to have regular and quick communication with your clients, visitors and followers, which is smart and easy to use way to stay connected and gain more trust. On the other hand, these two networks could be seen as one way of modern techniques to build a list, since your followers on both networks could be treated as valuable subscribers to your product, business or simply your ideas.

Social Bookmarking

I don’t know how much experience you have with social bookmarking sites, but they can be a great boost to your website’s traffic. Social bookmarking sites are highly popular and their main force are their users, who are actively enrolled in created and editing their content, actually. Here is what Gopi Nath said:

Social bookmarking sites such as StumbleUpon, Digg help you to get instant and quick traffic. You need to publish interesting things over these sites which will help you surely to gain popularity easily, if you are the first person to post such a thing. Create a network in these sites and spread the word from time to time. You will get instant responses and thus more traffic to your website too. The traffic driven from these sites will even crush your server and make it not able to handle the total traffic.

Blogs

Now, blogs aren’t something new and probably most of us know pretty well what are blogs. But the fact is, blogs can bring you a lot of traffic to your website if you use them wisely. You don’t just need to run your own blog, although that’s smart thing to do, but you can use power of blog commenting on high-traffic blogs, quality blogs and authority blogs in your niche. Here is an excerpt from Gopi Nath’s article about blogs:

More and more blogs are being created daily and you need to find the blogs based on your niche. Make a comment on the posts made in those blogs with a simple back link to your website, which will probably allow the visitors of that particular blog to at least have a look at your website. They might perhaps start to follow your website forever if they find interesting and useful content in it. It might not give you heavy traffic, but still a decent amount of traffic will be generated towards your website for sure.

There you have it, everything has been said in the right way. Again, think about what you are posting to those other blogs, when you do blog commenting, because if you again post just spammy garbage content, blog owners won’t approve your comment and your efforts are “gone with the wind”. Always, and I mean always, try to add some value to the blog with your comment, because that’s the only real way to get approved, posted to blog and to gain new visitors to your website.

Forums

I see a lot of people and marketers these days who think forums are an old game that doesn’t work any more. Well, that’s not true. If you know how Chris Farrell is, one of successful internet marketers, then you probably know that he built up his business thanks to forums. Forums are highly effective and can bring you quality, productive traffic.

Here is what one of successful internet marketers, Kim Roach (check her Facebook page here: Kim Roach) said about forum marketing in one of her latest posts:

Now, I agree with most of what Jason said here, except one… Although ads on social media sites can be pretty easy to set up, work with and gain profit from, they are still ads which are spending your money. So, you can’t really just sit back and watch traffic flows to your website without keeping your eye on stats of your ads. No matter how good and precisely you can set up your ads, there will still be those that will tend to suck up your money without giving you profit in return.

Social media marketing is powerful these days because there is lot of people who are visiting social media sites, that’s the fact. Also, you can benefit a lot from social media traffic by placing smart and highly targeted ads, that’s another fact. If you are not utilizing the power and advantages of social networks and social media sites, you are losing a lot, which is another fact. So, my recommendation is to get into social media marketing as fast as possible. Take your time, test those ads, do lot of split testing until you find your winner ads, and enjoy in powerful traffic from social media marketing.

What you have to do is to create a website that is easy to use, reliable and that provides valuable info.

This is completely true, and that is what Google is aiming for – to provide its users with top quality websites as top ranked search results. In other words, Google wants to make users happy and the only way to do so is to give them best possible results and lead its visitors to top notch websites. If you can provide Google with a high quality website, Google will provide you with high volume of free organic traffic. So, that sounds like a business deal: you give something to Google, and Google will give something to you in exchange. Sounds fair to me, right?

On the other hand, if you have a high quality website, it will lead to more conversions and more money for you, because high quality websites really does make more money for its owners. Think about that.

Content is still the king!

Mary said it pretty well in this paragraph:

The quality of your web content just about decides the total quality of your internet site. And, it may be employed to generate web traffic. When Google see that authority websites are linking to your content, and you are linking to other top rated websites, Google will see your website as important website and authority status of your website will grow.

That’s a good way to generate organic traffic to your web pages. Similarly, Google ranks higher web sites that have lots of back links from other relevant and authority web resources. You can generate numerous backlinks by hand, or by using software that can do all of the work for you. Whatever strategy you will choose using, be very careful to receive links from websites that have relevancy to the posts/services or products you provide and that are regarded as “valuable” by Google.

In general, what Mary says is the truth, although I don’t agree with her about the use of software. I know that software can help us to achieve desired goals faster, but in most cases we want to act as humans as much as possible, especially because most of authority websites are paying attention to that. So, be smart when using software. Probably you can use it without any fear in most cases, but for the biggest authority sites in your niche you want to look like a real human because that will help you to get your links approved in more cases than when using software.

That’s it! This advices should help you to produce better and high quality websites that will make visitors happy but search engines too, which will allow you to get more traffic and more sales at the end.

Blogging is literally for everyone, especially for those that love to write and express their opinions on any subjects they are interested in. Let me correct myself… Nowadays blogging is not just for those who like to write because we also have many video blogs (which are updated with videos instead of textual posts) and podcasts, which are audio blogs updated with audio files.

No matter which type of blogs you decided to run (we will concentrate here on regular textual blogs here), blogs are for sure one of the best ways to promote your interests online and to build your online business around. Besides that, blogs are great tool to give your search engine optimization strategy a boost, especially for your other websites. And as we already said, blogs offers you incredible money making opportunities while you are having fun and excitement writing about the things you like.

You don’t need to have any special skills to be successful in blogging. All you need is a blogging platform that will allow you to publish your thoughts to the audience who will visit your blog. There are free blogging platforms, like Blogger.com and WordPress.com (among many others), but more professional approach would be to have your own blog hosted on your own web hosting, under your own domain name and using, for example, free blogging platform from WordPress.org. This second approach is a little bit expensive (around $70 per year for web hosting and domain name) but as I already said, it’s the most recommendable option if you plan to build a business around your blog.

No matter which method you choose for your blog (probably free option if that will be your first blog), you need to know few things about the most important things when it comes to blogging. So, before you start blogging, think about these questions because they will probably be the most important factors for success of your blog:

What will be the main topic of your blog?

You should also choose something you can write about with easy and easily produce ton of content, because you don’t want to have a blog that will be updated only few times per year, right? In most cases, I would suggest to update your blog every day, or at least a couple times per week. You want to entice your visitors, make them interested in your subject, and willing to visit your blog again. For that to achieve, you must provide them with interesting, unique and high quality content. That is why your blog should be about something you know a lot about, you are good at, or you love to write about.

Before anything else, get your domain name.

When you are sure about your decision what you want to write about, be sure to register your domain name and get a web hosting account for your new blog. Before you do that, go to Google Keyword Tool and do some keyword research. Basically you want to enter main words related to your chosen topic and see what will come out. This keyword tool will give you list of keywords people are searching for online with number of monthly searches. The higher that number is, the more popular that topic is, which is good for you, but don’t forget the fact that higher search volumes means bigger competition too.

When doing your research, you want to pick a good domain name that is related to your chosen topic, with high number of monthly searches (more than 5,000 if it is possible) and as low competition as possible. Now, there are many theories and methods how you can do keyword research. I suggest you to get some better keyword research tool like Keyword Elite, or you can do quick competition research by entering chosen keyword into Google search engine and see how many indexed web sites there is for that particular keyword. When you choose the best keyword for your blog, head over to Namecheap and register your domain name. After that go to Hostgator and get your web hosting account. Next, go to WordPress.org and download their free blogging platform and install it to your website. If you don’t know how to do it, refer to their help section, it’s pretty easy to install your blog if you follow their short tutorial.

Be sure to blog and generate content – constantly!

The main purpose of blogging is to make your visitors interested in what you are blogging about and to give them as many content as possible. As I already said, if you plan to have a blog that will be updated just occasionally, then you don’t need a blog. If you run a blog, prepare yourself to update your blog with new and fresh content at least 3 times per week. That is not good only for making your visitors interesting in your blog, but for search engines too, because they love constantly updated blogs with new, fresh and high quality content.

Remember, with blogs you want to build a community around your subject. That is why you should be able to generate interesting content people will be interested to read and comment on. Yes, comments are pretty important when it comes to blogging, although you would want to disable comments on some of your blogs (but that is for advanced bloggers only). Also, when you have a lot of high quality content and many visitors that will come often to your blog to read your new posts, it will be easy for you to monetize that blog and make money off of it.

What are recommended monetization strategies for your blogs?

Since there is so many monetization possibilities available out there, it’s really hard to suggest “the best strategy”. I would say it all depends on the type of your blog. For some blogs the best way is to simply show Pay-Per-Click (PPC) ads on it and cash in from clicks that people make on those ads. For that type of monetization, the best choice is Google Adsense, Chitika, or similar advertising program.

Second way to monetize your blog is through showing ads for other people’s products, which is know as affiliate marketing. There are many affiliate networks and program that allows you to promote their products and earn money from commission you earn for each product sold through your special affiliate link. Some of the biggest affiliate networks are Amazon, Clickbank, Commission Junction, Linkshare, and so on. One of methods of picking an affiliate program for your website is to check other websites in your niche and to see which programs or products they are promoting. Then it is easier to find similar, or maybe the same affiliate program for your website.

Third option is to create your own product. I know that sounds hard for many people but actually it isn’t. If you know a lot about the topic of your blog, or about niche of your blog, it’s relatively easy to create your own product (like digital ebook, audio book, video course, membership site, etc) and offer it to your visitors. You can add your product to affiliate networks like Clickbank, or you can sell it on your own using payment processors like Paypal, or if it is a book, you can sell it through Amazon using their Createspace service for individual publishers.

Anyway, putting advertisements on your blog isn’t something you should do from the first day of your blog. Take some time to fill your blog with as many quality content as possible, build some backlinks, get to good positions on search engine rankings and build up some traffic and returning visitors to your blog. When you have popular and often visited blog, you can easily incorporate any of previously mentioned monetization methods.

So, don’t think too long. Get out and start your own blog. Don’t be afraid. We all made mistakes we were starting in blogging so expect you will make some mistakes too, but don’t worry about that, you will learn a lot about blogging on the way. First steps are the most important so don’t lose any time and start blogging!
